SHLOHMO (US)

WHERE: Civic Underground
WHEN: Thursday, February 7, 2013

Future Classic & Astral People are joining forces for a special evening with LA beat-visionary SHLOHMO, performing an exclusive Sydney sideshow whilst touring with the national St Jerome’s Laneway Festival.

Lo-Fi beat maker, field recording enthusiast and WEDIDIT Collective boss Shlohmo is no ordinary producer. At just twenty one years old the experimental artist (better known as Henry Laufer) has carved a sound from psychedelic compositions sitting between Hip Hop, synth funk and abstract beatwork not just inspired – but inspiring - a generation of artists unafraid to sound a little weird.

Releasing almost exclusively on the LA-based Friends of Friends imprint, Shlohmo's multiple EP’s and mini-albums preceded 2011’s LP ‘ Bad Vibes’ introducing a refined aesthetic to a continually innovative sound. Remixes for the likes of Toro Y Moi, Souljah Boy, Drake, Jeremih, Little Dragon and Australia’s very own Flume has allowed him to meld his space-infused weirdness to hip hop influence, whilst pushing the likes of Ryan Hemsworth and RL Grime through the ‘WEDIDIT’ label collective.

All of the above contribute in some form to a unique and highly anticipated live show, appearing in Australia for the very first time. Experience the life and sound of one of the USA’s most innovative and genre defying artists in a rare and extremely intimate setting.

www.summeronthegreen.com

Second release $20 + b/f

This year for Summer on the Green we have 2 of our most admired DJ acts set to play and we can’t be more excited! First up of the two is the FUTURE CLASSIC DJS, these guys have put on some of the best nights that we have had out over the past couple of years in Sydney with their club night Adult Disco. We couldn’t have thought of anyone better to lay down 3 hours of beats over the green in the afternoon as the sun goes down!

Next we have Simon Caldwell, who is personally my favorite Sydney DJ, Simon is more adaptable than MacGyver with a tooth pick, rubber band and a match stick. He can play according to any venue, time and location. Having spent more time laying down beats in bowling clubs with Madracket which has been going strong for nearly 14 years we thought that there is nobody better in Sydney, let alone Australia to play a set in the Bondi bowling club.

This year we also have Al Lee and Mark Galpin laying down nu-disco and house as well as the usual Summer on the Green DJ’s, Christian and Dim vs unpressed pumping out house and techno as the day draws to a close. If you want a fun day of beats, bowls and cheap beer/vino with a bunch of friendly people then look no further than Summer on the Green. Young kids are also welcome with their parents and of course the kids pay nothing!

Summer on the Green – 17th November 2012

Bondi Bowling Club – 1 Warners Avenue, Bondi

Tickets are available from http://www.summeronthegreen.com/ and Resident Advisor

FUTURE CLASSIC DJS (3 hour set)

True to their name the Future Classic DJs search out the best tunes old or new, delving into dusty crates of vinyl for classics as well as scouring the globe for the future in fresh and interesting new sounds.

Future Classic DJs play and curate two residencies in Sydney - Adult Disco, a cult club night that doesn't finish til sunrise and hosts international guests from the house, disco, techno and bass music scenes and Sunhaze, a Sunday afternoon BBQ and comedown session designed to bring your weekend to a close in style with soul, hip hop and and disco – Time Out described it as “some seriously good music” so they must be doing something right.

The Future Classic DJs have played Sydney's best bars and clubs including The Hilton’s Zeta Bar, The Loft, ivy, Goodgod, The Flinders, The Tilbury, The Civic; corporate functions, fashion shows and art events for Belvedere, Virgin, absolut, The Museum of Contemporary Art; festivals including Parklife, Field Day, Future Music and Sydney Festival’s Beck’s Festival Bar annually since 2007 plus overseas guest spots in London, Zurich, Berlin, New York and Barcelona among others.

Simon Caldwell

Simon Caldwell is one of a handful of DJ's whose name adds a certain integrity to an event. Playing since the early 1990’s to beer drinkers, bum shakers and radio listeners alike, he has managed to avoid the stifling 'style' classification so many other DJ's trap themselves into, keeping himself free to draw on his varied loves of deep, soulful house, techno, funk, jazz, electro, booty, hip hop and anything else which catches his ear. He currently holds down Monday Sunset on FBI Radio, and is resident/co-promoter of Mad Racket, a Sydney underground party institution.

To the present day Simon has rocked the dancefloor of practically every venue and clubnight in Sydney, with notable residencies at Home on Saturday nights and The Chinese Laundry. He is regularly booked to play peak sets at some of Sydney's biggest house events and has pitched his skills alongside dozens of internationals, including Moodymann, Derrick Carter, Derrick May, Andy Weatherall, Pepe Bradock, Mark Farina, Theo Parrish, Q-Bert, DJ Godfather, Richie Hawtin, Kelli Hand, Frankie Knuckles, Gilles Peterson, Norman Jay, Tom Trago, Thievery Corporation, James Lavelle, Ian Pooley, Luke Slater, Chris Duckenfield/Swag, Charles Webster, Darshan Jesrani (Metro Area), Steve Bug, Daft Punk, Recloose, Common Factor, Patrick Forge, Losoul, Stacey Pullen, Carl Craig, Rolando, Blake Baxter, Claude Young, Ectomorph, Dave Clarke, Russ Dewbury, Jamie Liddel, Kid Koala, Sharon Jones, Fat Freddy’s Drop, Public Enemy, James Brown, Grace Jones, Todd Terje, Jazzanova, Heiko Laux, Quarion, Daedelus, Ark and Jus-Ed. (And by ‘alongside’, we mean on the same stage, not tucked away at a tiny bar at the same festival or adjoining suburb).

As a DJ, Simon Caldwell continues to push new ideas and influences while still being able to draw on the history of his expansive and discriminating record collection. Whether he's playing deep house, techno, ambient, soul, hip hop, bangin' Chicago house, Detroit electro or jazz, you can expect to hear the old alongside the new, but in the hands of Simon Caldwell, music is timeless.

Mark Galpin

English DJ Mark Galpin has been a part of Sydney's underground music scene for the past decade, ever since moving to Australia from hometown Newcastle in the UK with a pair of Technics 1210s. As a DJ he has a signature style of uplifting and melodic underground house music - spanning nu disco, deep house, progressive and techno. Mark has mastered his craft through gigs all over town as well as far flung international places including Rio's famous street carnival, and is also a well known local promoter - of Shindig events, progressive house night Habit, and many boat parties on Sydney's Harbour. Built on melody and with smatterings of piano, sax and classic old-skool house - his DJ sets are always an uplifting experience!

Al Lee

Al Lee is back for his second Summer on the Green after playing at the first one, Al loves all things disco and house and is one for setting the mood on the dance floor/bowling green/kick on and/or bar mitzvah. Expect lots of tunes made for the sunshine when Al hits the decks!

Christian

As one of the founders of Summer On the Green, he loves all forms of dance music and can play anything from disco through to techno, normally one for the opening set’s he is looking forward to closing out the night this time with Dim vs unpressed. He can normally be found DJ’ing at various house parties in the Bondi area as well as the infamous fancy dress pub crawl final destination parties, the next being the Organic Food and Beverage pub crawl where he is looking to play a set comprised of nothing but house songs about food… Sandwiches anyone?

Dim vs unpressed

These guy’s put the M in Minimal, they are so Minimal that they have been growing their Berlin fringes since the dawn of time, expect nothing but a kick drum while the other one hits a symbol every 4th beat. All jokes aside, there will be no symbol.

TOTALLY ENORMOUS EXTINCT DINOSAURS
ANNOUNCES EXCLUSIVE ONE-OFF SYDNEY SHOW THIS OCTOBER

Having already been announced on the impressive line up for Falls and Southbound in 2012 and 2013 respectively, we’re happy and extremely thrilled to announce that Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs will be coming to our shores this October to play his debut Australian show, an exclusive one-off show at Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory.

In the middle of 2010 Orlando Higginbottom AKA ‘Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs’ first made waves when he released his third EP through the much loved record label Greco-Roman (partially run by Joe Goddard of Hot Chip) and a track called “Household Goods”...thus begun the rapid rise of his following across the globe.

Earlier this year TEED released his stellar and long-awaited debut LP titled “Trouble” through the widely respected Polydor Records (Universal in Australia). The album quickly hit #1 on the Australian electronic album charts and has since enjoyed a huge wave of praise from media, critics and fans from around the world. Considering the rarity of a debut album featuring tracks as mature as jams like “Tapes & Money”, “Garden”, “You Need Me on My Own” and “Stronger”, it’s little wonder why the young producer from Oxford (UK) has radio waves and blogs around the world buzzing with his overt musicality and scarily on-point jungle dance intuition.

Currently travelling the world and thrilling punters wherever he goes with his unique live show, we couldn’t be anymore excited to be bringing Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs to Australia (Sydney in particular) for the first time ever this October and hosting this exclusive one-off Sydney show which will no doubt sell out fast! For the rest of Australia, you will have to hold out till the summer.

Supporting Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs at the Oxford Art Factory will be a secret special guest who will be revealed closer to the date and our good friends the Future Classic DJs.

Tickets on sale from 9am, Monday the 6th of August 2012.
